With the opportunity of a few more hours out than usual, I decided on seeing 90047 with the Virgin set at International then heading to Nuneaton to see 47727 on the Boston steel. Timing was critical, 90047 was due to depart Interntional at 11.53 but the ATW service from Wales wasn't due in until 11.50 - so I left 30 minutes earlier, changing at Smethwick & Birmingham. Everything went to plan with the Class 90, so next stop was Coventry for the dodger to Nuneaton. Any freight seen there was a bonus, but would the light last until the Class 47 passed by & would it be on time? Fortunately it was on time and there was still some sunlight, had it been a few minutes later I would've missed the dodger back to Coventry & had to wait over an hour until the next one! 5 trains to get to Nuneaton and another 4 to get home, plus a wait at Smethwick in the cold! Oh what fun.
