SVR 23rd August

Wandering along the riverbank I saw the train in the distance & spotted the Pannier, then stood to watch it pass by across the river from us. It was a shock to see 2 locos on the train, 7714 & 4566. Apparently 4566 is off “down south” for a gala at the West Somerset Railway.

At Arley station 4936, 7802 & 7812 were each working trains, also 46443 on 1 coach Footplate Experience.

SVR 22nd August

Hot & sunny around Arley. First train seen s/b was 4936, then 7812 n/b. At the station 46443 arrived with 6 coaches on Footplate Experience heading north and 37906 on diesel turn heading south. Then we walked to Victoria Bridge  and saw 4936 n/b and 7802 s/b.

2 Manors & a Hall in one day, can’t be bad!

Update 170. 37602 & 37218 top & tail 1Z12, a test train, through Barnt Green, 21/08/09

This working was from Bristol to Derby via Newport & Chepstow. We had planned to see the train at Bromsgrove but major traffic delays on the M5 made us change our minds and head to Barnt Green. The trees here make it almost as dark as Old Hill and the “going away” shot needed a quick adjustment to the camera because of the brightness – not the best place for photos, but at least we saw the train.

Update 169. Severn Valley Railway coaches & wagons/vans seen during the 2005 Autumn Steam Gala

When the weather is good I take photos of rolling stock on the Railway. During the gala I photographed over 40 coaches and about 18 goods wagons.

The coaches aren’t usually seen as the main subject in a photo, but without them the Railway wouldn’t carry any passengers, so an album without any photos of locos.

Update 168. Severn Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2005. Visiting locos 1369, 1450, 6619, 7903, 9351 & 9466, also residents 1501, 5164, 5764, 7714, 7802, & 42968

Only realised a few days ago that these photos weren’t in the Gallery. Perhaps they were in a previous Gallery or one of the old web sites.

As usual with me, far too many photos, but with 6 visiting locos it was a great gala. The weather also looked good most of the time, although the rain can be seen in the shot of 6619 climbing Eardington bank.

Not easy to select a photo to show here, but decided on 6619 – as that was the loco that I was looking for, but couldn’t find, in the Gallery. That was when I realised the photos had not been uploaded.

I’m now wondering how many more galas have not been uploaded….. Well, they can wait!

Update 167. First direct Chiltern train from Bridgnorth (Severn Valley Railway) to London Marylebone. 15/08/09

A one-off train service from Bridgnorth to London & return. If it proved successful, there may be further “specials” in the future.

As there is no direct connection for trains to Bridgnorth, on arriving back at Kidderminster passengers had to walk from the main line station to the SVR station to catch another train to return them to stations along the Severn Valley.

I went to Kidderminster to see the train cross from the SVR to Network Rail tracks and have uploaded 9 photos of this operation.

SVR 16th August

7714 on the first train from Bridgnorth through Arley with the Venturer diner set. 46443 was next s/b on Footplate Experience with 1 coach, crossing with 42968. Then overlooking Victoria Bridge, 4936 was on the Limited diner, 7802 was next towards Kidderminster. Finally, back at the station for another cuppa, we waited for the return of 7714 on the Venturer.

Update 166. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell” on “The Cathedrals Express” at Oxford, 13/08/09

23 photos of 70013 at Oxford on “The Cathedrals Express” from London. I did not know which platform the train would arrive on, but was expecting it to be on the “down” platform. Fortunately, at the last moment, I realised it was to use the London-bound platform and was able to cross over to the other platform for some photos.

The photos show it arriving, then the empty stock movement to the sidings, then the return of the loco after turning at Didcot and finally the departure of the return working.
