SVR 10th October, Classic Car & Bike Day

Always a full day this, I like to visit all the stations to see the cars – and take photos. Allowed a “free day” by Mrs. S. and so was able to be on the first DMU from Kidderminster, this was formed of the SVR 5-car set plus the 2 Ecclesbourne bubbles. My plan was Highley first, then Arley for sandwiches. 7812 was on my train from Highley to Arley, from there, 5764 took me to Bridgnorth. Time for more photos, then 43106 arrived on the Limited & 5764 was taking me to Bewdley. After more photos & a cuppa, it was back to Kidderminster with 43106. During the day 5164 was also seen working trains, but as I arrived at Kidderminster, 4566 was ready with the next departure – seems it had replaced 5764. I’ve already sorted the photos, but not cropped them, so not ready for uploading just yet.

SVR 9th October

After a full day on the Railway the previous day, things had to be more “normal” on Saturday, meaning a walk to Arley station. Whilst walking by the river, 43106 & the resident DMU were seen passing by. Then at the station, 5164 & 5764 were seen hauling trains, also 150001 on a return journey from Bridgnorth. Finally, the Ecclesbourne bubble cars M79900 & M55006 were seen working a private charter to Highley.

Update 392. Severn Valley Railway DMU Reunion, 08/10/10

Today, all the SVR services were worked by DMU. My day actually started at Old Hill, with 47s top & tailing a rail tour to Scotland, but that’s another story. Back to the SVR & Bewdley, M55006 worked the first train attached to the SVR set. Next in was Chiltern 121020, we would’ve caught that – but it was rather full on arrival, so we waited for the next departure – M79900, which we caught to Arley. At Arley we returned with 121020 for lunch at Bewdley. Our next trip was on the SVR DMU to Arley, with the intention of seeing the Wickham trolleys, from there it was M79900 to Highley and more photos. 150001 was our next train to Hampton Loade & from there we returned to Highley on M55006, seeing the Wickham trolleys again. The final journey for us was 150001 back to Bewdley.

Update 390. 60019 Bittern on “The Cornishman” at Bodmin Parkway, 19/09/10

You saw the photos at Bodmin Parkway in an earlier update, the other reason we were at the station was to see Bittern working a railtour back to Bristol. The train didn’t stop for very long and I just had time to get from one end of the platform to the other to see it depart.

The train is passing the connection to the Bodmin Steam Railway

Update 388. 30587 & 6435 at the Bodmin Steam Railway, September 2010

Continuing with some more photos from our week in Cornwall, these were taken on 2 different days. The first photos of 6435 were taken after we’d had a meal at Padstow and as there were no other plans for the day it was just possible to make a detour and return via Bodmin to see the last train of the day. The other photos were taken on the day 60019 worked “The Cornishman” and 30587 was probably steamed in connection with that.

It was a real treat to see this loco running:-

Update 387. “Lyd” at the Launceston Steam Railway, 16/09/10

We were on Holiday for a week in Cornwall and fortunately that week coincided with several “railway” events, one of these was the visit of the replica Lynton & Barnstaple loco “Lyd” to the Launceston Steam Railway. During the time of our visit it was only moving around the station area, but did work trains later in the day. The loco had only been completed during the summer and is still in plain black but will be painted green at a later date. The loco working trains was Hunslet “Covertcoat”.

We had just finished eating lunch at the station as the train returned from Newmills, the plan wasn’t to travel but as the passengers got off KC was ready to jump on, so I had to buy some tickets for a ride!!

Update 386. M55006 & M79900 arrive at Kidderminster for the Railcar Reunion. 04/10/10

The two “bubble cars” arrived by road today from the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. My photos show the transporters reversing from Comberton Hill through the car park for unloading onto the SVR. Also seen is a stoneblower, DR80301, which is booked to do some work on the Railway during the next week or so.

Both cars can be seen here as they move through the car park:-

Update 385. 5Z68 47760 & 37685 at Old Hill on ECS to Carnforth. 03/10/10

The stock had been used on “The Severn Valley Limited” Bridgnorth to Blackpool special. After reaching Blackpool, hauled by “Leander”, the train returned to Kidderminster by diesel power. I ventured out in the rain to see it pass through Old Hill, the 47 working hard with the 37 DIT.

The train passed by at 13.36

Update 384. 5164, 5764, 43106 & 46443 at Arley. 02/10/10

A bit quieter than last weekend when we had the Gala, but still 4 locos out. No problems with trying to find somewhere to stand to take photos, but these days the camera always comes out at the last minute – I don’t go to take photos, just to enjoy watching the trains. I’m always tempted by a chimney-first shot through the bridge and am getting quite good at setting the camera for that awkward shot. KC obliged by being almost in the right place when one of the trains was in the station, so I tried a couple of photos which include her with a train in the background.
