Day trip to Porthmadog, and onto the Welsh Highland Railway |
The opportunity for a short ride on a new section of the WHR. Taliesin was the train loco, the diesel being used to shunt the train - as there is no direct access to the Caernarfon line from the platform at Porthmadog. After being hauled onto the Cob, the steam loco would then haul the train towards Caernarfon as far a Hafod-y Llyn, where it would run round & return to the Cob, then the diesel would haul the train back into the station. Thanks to an Arriva Club55 ticket, my journey to Porthmadog from Smethwick only cost £13, my Senior Railcard had saved me £2 on the normal cost of £15.
