The 87s were due to be moved from Crewe to Rugby, for onward transport by road to the docks for export. I chose Stafford as the station to see them, as it costs less to get there from where I live than the other stations on the WCML. The working was extremely early & I almost missed them. I stepped of a Voyager, looked towards Crewe - and could see the Class 47 hauling them, hurrying along the platform to the rear of the Voyager I was just able to get the camera ready in time for some shots.
Everything else was a bonus after seeing the 87s, just a shame I missed them on the move through Old Hill the previous week. Mustn’t forget, at last a decent photo of “Eddie the Engine”. Little things please little minds......
