Another old slide IOMR 2-4-0T no. 4. About 1974?

Not sure of the exact year, but there was a rumour the railway was about to close & as I’d never been to the Isle of Man before I decided to head across there – caught train from Birmingham on Saturday morning after a night shift, booked bed & breakfast in Douglas & returned on Sunday. I have found about 12 slides, not sure if I have any other photos from that visit.

Started scanning old slides, first one – a Spanish 2-8-2

It’s 2023, perhaps I should try posting in the blog again. How often, who knows!!

I’ve found all sorts of old slides from years ago, quite a few railway ones, but many others that won’t interest you, such as family ones. The Spanish railway slides are a bit of a jumble, no idea where many of them were taken but they are interesting to see. What else turns up, you’ll have to wait & see…….

2-8-0 2259 at Brighouse and Halifax Model Engineers track

It had been such a long time since I last visited Ravensprings Park that when I started scanning some old photos from there I couldn’t remember where I had taken them. As I scanned more photos I began to remember the layout of the site and a quick search confirmed the location. I must try & visit again sometime.

View from Midford signal box, early 70s.

Another one of those photos when I cannot say which year it was taken. Several of us from the Bristol Railway Circle decided to have a walk through Devonshire & Combe Down tunnels on the S&D. As you can see from the photos, the track had been lifted through Midford, but was still in place through the two tunnels. We managed to walk all the way to Radstock, some of the old trackbed had been fenced off & we had to walk through a few “fields”, with cattle in them – roaming across the trackbed. I do have a few more photos, but like many others, poor quality, good memories though. I did count the sleepers in both of the tunnels, made a note of it somewhere!
