Since changing my web host I have more bandwidth available, so I have added Lightbox, which is a Coppermine plugin. This allows a slideshow of the larger images, which is more enjoyable to look at than the intermediate images, which of course are smaller and not so clear.
To try it, click on any of the intermediate images – this will then display that image at full size. Within the image you can click on the right-hand side to go forwards, or left-hand side to go backwards. To start the slideshow, click the “>” arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of the box.
At the moment, only the main gallery is set to run Lightbox, hopefully I will add it to the other – if there are no problems.
Hope you like it? NOTE, don’t forget the “F11” option to hide the toolbars at the top of the explorer screen, to give a larger picture area if your screen isn’t very big. Pressing F11 again will bring back the toolbars, well it works with my Firefox & Internet Explorer!
This is part of the project on my new site. The photos are the existing ones from the gallery, but I have worked out a way to list them and show a single photo for each loco. Only worked part way through the list, but GWR locos are by far the most popular, although I haven’t created the pages for the other regions yet.
Try the list of GWR locos
It’s going back a few years to when the Echills Wood Railway re-opened. You can see how the page looks, with a brief description about the visit, along with links to the photos and to the EWR web site.
I’m pleased with how it looks, and it’s much easier than updating the old style html site.
Had plenty of practice at this upgrading recently & feel more confident, but it is still a bit worrying when you start deleting thousands of files. Still, I think it’s all working properly!!
Only about a month since the last update, looks like I have to rack my brains to upgrade the gallery software again. Oh well, stops me getting bored….
So if the galleries go offline, I’m either upgrading or done something wrong!!!
Trust me to leave it until Christmas Day to add the photo. I think it was taken at the end of November, so there has been plenty of time to prepare – but no, like everything else I do, it is left to the last minute.
That’s all the galleries updated, again. Only seems a few weeks since I updated to 1.5.8. Suppose it gets easier each time, probably have forgotten it all again by the time the next update is relased.
There is a later version of WordPress for this blog, something to do another night.
Which means I have been busy upgrading the galleries again, only “Sharpo’s World” still to do.
I’d get things done much quicker if I didn’t have to keep clearing snow & ice of our steep front path!
Just realised “guests” could only view thumbnails, so altered the settings for you to see the other sizes as well.
Also the home page of the gallery has been simplified to cut down the number of thumbnails that are displayed, meaning the page will load much faster.
Will have a go at enabling “comments” sometime on Monday.
Phew, what a relief, the upgrade has worked. Even made modifications to make some of the pages my usual yellow colour.
What is different to the previous version? It is probably much more “secure” etc. but the main differences will be what you can see. Firstly, you can now move backwards & forwards through the thumbnails in the filmstrip alongside the intermediate image by using the little blue arrows (the up arrow takes you backwards and the down arrow forwards) Next, when looking at intermediate images, you can move backwards or forwards through the intermediate images using the arrow left or arrow right keys on the keyboard. The arrow down key will show or hide the file information, finally the arrow up key will take you up a level to the page of thumbnail for that album. Now that I like, so much easier than the mouse!
Thumbnails for an album can now be set to “random”, so when the settings have all been altered the thumbnails for those albums will keep changing. Finally for now, thumbnails will show for albums with linked files.
Hopefully I will enable comments to be added again soon. I disabled comments years ago, due to spambots etc.
Just noticed the main page is showing literally hundreds of thumbnails for all the different albums, maybe I need to alter the settings to reduce the number of thumbnails. Now I’m confused………
(Just editing the configuration for the gallery home page to cut down on the number of thumbnails that show, so things could change!!!)
All backed up, just in case something goes wrong. All that’s left to do is make a cuppa & then get on with deleting the old version before uploading the 1.5.8 files. So if anybody tries to access it – you’ll have to wait a while & try later.
After working on KC’s gallery last week, I spent some time on the “Midlands” gallery and that one is now using Coppermine 1.5.8. One thing still to do is enable comments. “Comments”can be a problem when bots & spammers keep submitting the usual rubbish, but there are better ways to eliminate this now, so I will get that sorted soon.
Finally, there is Sharpos-World gallery to upgrade. Before I do that, must check I have everything backed up. With over 50,000 files I don’t want anything to go wrong!!!
