SVR 16th May (very brief visit)

Lovely weather today, loads of showers & some quite heavy.

Didn’t have the walk along the riverbank today, straight to the station for sandwiches & a cuppa, then back home again.

Only 2 trains seen, 5164 heading north, crossing with D444. No fun staying out in this weather when there are jobs to be done at home.

Update 128. 5029 at Widney Manor

Heading to Tyseley from Paignton, 5029 is seen approaching Widney Manor.

It was overdue & I could find no reports of its progress, so, crossing the footbridge, I asked the guy in the booking office if he could check what was happening. Then there was a shout from the other platform “it’s coming”, and of course there wasn’t time to cross to the other platform. Still, can’t complain, the photos have come out quite well.

Update M126 Railtours 09/05/09

I’ve sorted the photos now, the trains seen are as follows:-

Gloucester – Holyhead passing Old Hill, t&t 47851 & 47798
Bristol – Aberystwyth passing Aston, t&t D444 & 37676
Holyhead – Gloucester at Wolverhampton, t&t 47851 & 47798
Carlisle – Birmingham at Wolverhampton, 86259
Aberystwyth – Bristol at Wolverhampton, t&t 37676 & D444

As you can tell from the photos, it was very dull for the last 2 specials at Wolverhampton, the final photos taken at about 9pm.

As usual a few other photos to help pass the time as I waited.

47851 is seen approaching Old Hill

SVR 10th May

A shorter visit today, as I wanted to see 37676 working the empty stock from Bristol to Carnforth during the afternoon.

Locos were probably working the same trains as yesterday. From down by the river, we saw D8188 on GW stock, next was 7812 on the LMS set. At the station 4566 appeared on a maroon set, then 42968 ran in tender first – no photo of that, so can’t remember the stock.

3 tours through Wolverhampton

Couldn’t resist a visit to Wolverhampton, as 3 tours were due through in just over an hour.

The first was supposed to have been the Cambrian Mountaineer, hauled by D444 (50044) but a train failure in the Wellington area meant it was re-routed via Crewe, and reached here nearly 2 hours late. Also, the 50 was at the rear, the train hauled by 37676.

The Welsh Dragon, t&t by 47851 & 47798 departed about 10 minutes early, and was the first of the specials to be seen on the night.

Next was the “Scot over Shap”, arriving behind 86259 about 20 late.

It was a bit too dark for “moving” trains when the 37 & 50 departed, but I’ll see how the photos look later. A half hour wait for a connecting train at Smethwick is the last thing you need & I was glad to get home.
