SVR 4th October

We knew there would be no trains passing by as we walked down by the river, so made sure we were at the station to see the trains booked to cross at lunchtime. 5164 arrived first on the s/b train, then 7812 on the n/b train. The diner was due n/b 30 minutes or so later & was hauled by 4936.

At least the first 2 trains were chimney-first.

SVR 3rd October

Limited service due to the loop at Hampton Loade being out of action, so we timed our visit to Arley to see the trains cross at 12.40.

7812 was working the train for Bridgnorth, 5164 on the one for Kidderminster. Thinking it would be a long wait for the next train, we headed back across the river, but then heard the whistle of an approaching train – it was a charter, headed by 4566, at least we saw it in the distance as it passed through Arley non stop.

SVR 2nd October

KC’s walk today was along the river to Bewdley station. We timed it to arrive just before the train from Highley, hauled by 4566, facing the “right way”.

Had lunch, but didn’t wait for the train to return – as it would’ve been bunker first.

This weekend it will just be 2 trains operating, due to the loop at Hampton Loade being unusable. Better make sure we are at Arley for our sandwiches at the right time, otherwise it will be a long wait for the next trains.

Update 200. 47773, 47580 & 47839 at Acocks Green, 01/10/09

I was there to see 6Z48 Burton to Dollands Moor, hauled by 47839. Looking in the distance I saw the front of a 47 approaching, with another 47 behind it. This wasn’t the freight, it was a light-engine working from Tyseley to Hatton & return – something I wasn’t expecting.

Just 4 minutes later 6Z48 appeared, following the 47s towards the south.
